I just finished putting in backdated posts for Saturday through yesterday – counting this one (which is going on on time) that’s a whole week’s worth of posts.  I had a very busy weekend, spending most of both Saturday and Sunday out of the house, then took Monday off to keep an eye on the kids while Alice did something else, and then spent the rest of the week struggling mightily to keep up at work.

I. Am. Stressed. Out.

So let’s start there.  I’ve got WAY too much going on at work right now.  It was a productive week, and in a lot of ways it was a good week, but my work week was incredibly demanding mentally at all times whenever I was at work.  I did have very nice progress and feedback on two major projects I’m working on, which is nice, but which leaves very little fuel or motivation for anything else in my life.  I usually put together these blog posts quickly during a short break at work, and never actually had a short enough break to do it until this afternoon.

I was going to be getting a friend’s spare FitBit wristband (mine broke) on Tuesday, but didn’t end up getting it yet because her husband was ill and so wasn’t at the gathering that he usually is on Tuesday nights.  Hopefully he’s feeling better soon!  But that’s why no step counts yet.  Speaking of step counts, I’ve got a lot of work coming up at my day job that was going to be easy to do some treadmill walking during, so I was planning to start spending some time on the tread-desks at work.  Unfortunately, it appears they have moved and are not setup currently while the renovations at the office are ongoing.  Frustrating.

The seasons are changing and the weather is getting colder (a good thing) but the days are also shorter – I’m back to waking up before the sun is up, which is always harder.  I also have been feeling pretty depressed all week.  I’m trying to work on that.  The best description is a mix of extremely frustrated/annoyed and then simultaneously very sad.  Does not help with my motivation when I get home at night (motivation to get things done when I get home, I mean).

I did have one accomplishment that I’m very proud of today.  Back in early May (not exactly sure what day anymore), Google Play added podcasts to their app.  I ended up browsing through the offerings in various categories, and added a podcast called Smart Passive Income with Pat Flynn to my list of podcasts because it sounded interested and Alice is doing some business with Passive Income strategies – primarily through selling of digital sewing patterns on Etsy.  So anyway, I thought it would be interesting.  I loaded up an episode for curiosity, and enjoyed it enough that I then went back to Episode 1 and started listening to them all in order.  He’s been podcasting for about 6 years, and has (as of this week) published a total of 234 podcasts, most ranging between 30 minutes and an hour.  They are on a variety of business-related topics.

With all the other business stuff I’m dealing with right now, relating to Alice’s Fabric Ninja business and my blogging experiments, Stitchy, and various other projects in the works right now, I found it helpful to listen to.  The biggest thing is that it is helped me shift my mindset into being more entreprenuerial and has given me a lot of tools to use when working on our businesses.  I never really let it get in the way of getting work done – the fact is, I listened to most of the episodes in the car when I couldn’t do anything else anyway.  A 22-minute (minimum) commute each way for five months adds up surprisingly quick.  I also listened to a lot of them when taking the kids on a car nap (the only kind of nap they will take these days), and when putting laundry away each week.

In any case, I’m done!  (Well not really, he posts a new episode each week – but an hour a week isn’t much to keep up with.)  It was a very interesting journey, dumping a TON of information into my head over just a few months.  In total, I listened to 7 days, 20 hours, 14 minutes, and 44 seconds of content over the last five months.  It’s somewhat sad that I spend THAT much time in the car, but it’s true.

As I’ve already mentioned a few times in this post, I got a LOT of value out of his content, and it’s driving a lot of how I make decisions with Stitchy, especially.

Not quite sure what I’m going to listen to in the car from now on, though…
