Yesterday was a wash on accomplishing too much of anything meaningful – I did, however, finish reading the potty training book that my wife and I are using to plan on how to potty train the twins. It’s a book called “Oh Crap Potty Training“, (affiliate link) and I found it to be really good – I picked it out because it was well recommended. We are actually a fair amount down the road towards potty training, we just will be refocusing our methods to more closely match the author’s suggestions and working to improve the outcome. In this case, “improve the outcome” means “ensure the children pee on the floor less and in the potty/toilet more”.
I also started looking at Alice’s website and I’ve got some pretty clear ideas for an easy redesign via WordPress, that replaces what she has now with some quick improvements and gives us a solid base to move forward with bigger feature additions. But I have a lot more to do on that before I’m ready to complete it.
Unlike yesterday, today is almost guaranteed to have a fairly large number of completed items. So that’ll be nice!
After finishing the book I was reading, I’ve already started reading the next book, which is a business book called “The Lean Startup” (affiliate link). I’ve been listening to the Smart Passive Income (offsite link) podcast by Pat Flynn for a few months now in the car, primarily because it’s exactly the kind of business model Alice’s pattern business has. Once her patterns are finished, it’s a very passive activity aside from answering questions. People can order her patterns, pay for them, and receive them without having to do anything – automation takes care of the rest. So I’ve been listening to all the episodes of SPI in the car, picking out useful bits as I can.
Anyway, Pat recommended the book and I was already considering reading it but then my grand-boss at work is reading it as well due to some changes in how my day job is going to operate. It’s also beneficial to read due to my plans with the Stitchy web app that I’m working on. So in short, I have three really good reasons to read this book RIGHT NOW. So I am.
