I actually had a very productive day, it’s just that productivity was primarily limited to my day job. While we were on the cruise, both kids failed to adjust to the new schedule – we were 3-4 hours behind there. It was only after we returned home that the kids adapted to the new schedule, which unfortunately meant they weren’t going to bed until 1 AM or later – which has continued through until last night, when we were able to shift their bedtime back about 2 hours from what it’s been. Unfortunately that means I’ve been up quite late every night, but I still have to be up early for work. This led to exactly the problems you’d assume. I was falling asleep at the wheel two days ago driving home from work. A nap was clearly in order to try and fix my sleep deficit. Unfortunately I ended up staying about an hour late after work last night.
When I did finally get home, I pretty much immediately took a two hour nap. That, combined with last night’s rest, adds up to about the amount of sleep I need each night. So I’m still running a deficit, but at least it didn’t get any worse. I also slept a lot more deeply last night, so I’m feeling a bit better today. The lateness in getting home combined with the nap didn’t leave much time for anything however. I woke up, had dinner, helped get the kids ready for bed, and then did some reading while Alice put the kids to sleep.
Although we started the process at 9:00, it took until 10:00 before they were ready for bed, and it was 11:30 before they were properly asleep. So I did get a good long period of reading in. I’m currently working on reading a book about potty training, as the kids have showed us they are ready and we are trying to adopt one unified approach between the two of us to get the kids potty trained. So I got about a third of the book read last night – a book which happens to be on my to do list to read. But I did not technically complete any items on my to do list.
