Yesterday’s Accomplishments: 2 Items Accomplished, including: Sending complaint letter to Princess Cruise Lines and putting updated registration in RV. I also ran out last night to get various “water enhancement” paraphernalia.
I’ve given up on only drinking plain water because it really wasn’t working well for me – flavored beverages are one of the things I enjoy in life. Call it a vice if you will, but here we are. In any case, I went out last night to pick up my usual liquid water flavoring drops (the ones Kool-Aid makes are pretty good). Looking into it more, there’s actually a lot of options. There’s 5-6 different brands of the liquids, and several different brands of powders as well.
I ended up getting the Kool-Aid liquids in four flavors for home usage – it can be prepared without a spoon so is more practical and also generates less trash. For the office though, I decided to try several other options – it turns out the powders are substantially cheaper, even the single serving tubes, a fact I hadn’t really noticed before.
For the stick/powder drinks, I’m not a huge fan of the Crystal Light flavors that are available, and the other ones I’ve tried are all energy drinks or vitamin drinks – I always find the flavors a bit weird. So I decided to try out some different ones…
Hawaiian Punch has eight different flavors available, so I grabbed one of each to see how I like them. I also grabbed three boxes of a brand called True Lemon / True Lime that has several flavors, is sweetened with Stevia and flavored with all-natural flavorings. I’m doing a taste test of the various kinds – results when I’m done in a few days.
Both the liquids and the powders are cheaper than diet soda – I pay $1.50 for a 20 oz diet soda at work. The packets typically make 2 servings of 8 oz each, so 16 oz, although I typically make these style drink powders in a 20 oz bottle, and then pour them over ice in a glass – so I’m diluting them quite a bit actually. I grew up drinking half-strength Kool-Aid, so I never knew the difference.. For the Hawaiian Punch brand ones, they work out to $0.13 for 16 oz. For the True Lemon / True Lime ones, they work out to $0.20 for 16 oz. The Kool-Aid liquids work out to $0.23 for 16 oz. So much cheaper. Even cheaper than buying 20 oz bottles of diet soda in bulk, actually.
Also these don’t have caffeine, which is a habit I should probably kick.
